National Problem Solving Day

On Saturday June 16, 2001, the IRS will hold its annual National Problem Solving Day to help its tax customers get more acquainted with, and better understand, the tax system. On this day, the IRS will have tax pundits waiting at 56 makeshift tax-stations (with at least one in each state open from 9 AM to 3 PM local time) so that people can come to find answers to their questions and fears about taxes. Although this service is normally available to people five days a week at IRS offices, this specific day will open up their office doors on a Saturday, making it more convenient for people to come.

This information session will be informal enough so that people can just walk in whenever they want to during the specified time, though if they prefer they can also set up an appointment with a tax expert by calling 1-800-829-1040. This number can also be used to ask questions right over the phone if someone is unable to come to the station during the National Problem Solving Day.

This day of extra effort to help taxpayers was first attempted in November of 1997. Due to its success of having solved more than 60,000 tax problem cases, the IRS has continued to provide this service to make taxpayers as comfortable and as happy as they can be when it comes to taxes.
